Maui Water Sports

Maui Water Sports encompass a number of different water activities. Maui water activities are a major allure to the island. Yes, other Hawaiian islands are surrounded by water just like Maui, but Maui water sports encompass a fuller range of unique experiences:

  • The “King” of Maui water sports is “Surfing” as this is the sport that was originated in the islands by the Hawaiians. If you’d like to learn how, Maui is the place. Surf locations are available that are just perfect for beginners and of course Maui is famous as a surfing location for experienced and professional surfers alike.
  • The entire coastlines of both west and south Maui are a fantastic playground for kayaks.
  • Paddleboarding is a growing sport in Maui.Stand-up paddle boarding has become one of the most popular activities among Maui water sports and it’s a rare day not to see paddlers on Napili Bay.
  • Windsurfing and kite surfing are very popular with locals and visitors alike.
  • Maui offers the water sport of parasailing in two different locations on the island, both Lahaina and Kaanapali. Keep in mind however that parasailing and jet skiing are only available from May 15 to December 15 when the whales have migrated away from the area.
  • Some of the most recognized dives spots on the islands are found off Maui including at Molokini and Lanai.
  • Jet Ski riding is perhaps one of the most thrilling of the water sports offered on Maui.  Again, it is only available from May 15 to December 15 when whales have migrated away from the area.
  • Sailing off the coast of Maui in any one of a variety of types of boats is one of Maui’s premier water sports.
  • Have a “need for speed” on the water? Try Wake Boarding, its a blast!

A perfect Maui experience is not complete without witnessing the beauty of a sunset out on the ocean. There are several relaxing sunset sails, complete with hors d’oeuvres and beverages, including local beer, wine, champagne and Mai Tais.
